Hello all! We have received a number of emails from folks concerned with our well being. Aside from having to bail our back area out in pouring rain and portage water, we are fine. The little contradictions like having flooding in our apartment but yet not having running water do not escape us. But the hurricanes have missed us in the main although the rain has really affected some of our fellow travelers in the Peace Corps. Our thoughts are with them.
Went to the Powell Center last Saturday just to swim in clean waters and chill. Well worth the J$100 it took to get there. A slight reprieve if you will.
We are headed to a really neat place this next weekend we are using to reward ourselves for getting through the training. If you like, you can google it at Great Huts at Boston Beach. We are staying at the grape hut.
Meetings tomorrow with some key stakeholders for our respective projects.
More lata!
Matt

Hello Matt,
This is from Dale the author of Transitionsunshine.info blog. You contacted my hubby and I. He is the author of Moving Back to Jamaica blog.
I had you on my mind last week after Gustav, as I knew you would be in JA by now, and wondered how you were doing.
Oh my!!!
Sounds like all is moving along for you, and welcome to the Rock. lol.Too bad you did not contact us when you were in Kingston. Please
send us a note so we can pass along our cell numbers and be a support base for you when you are in Kingston.
I would love to chat with you and wife. Also you should contact John Casey he is a retired America fellow who lives in Mobay with his wife Ann. He writes for Jamaicans.com and his email address is listed.Great supportive share information sort of guy. he has been here for 5 years and we have been for 3
I will listen out for you Matt. and please be safe okay. You will be amazed at how mush you will learn in the next 6 months.
Cheers
D
Glad you guys are doing well and enjoy your mini-vacation.
Hey Matt and Karen. Hope this comes through, Pat said you were having trouble getting emails.
Hope you guys are doing well. Summer has left New England and moving into fall mode. Still doing some riding in between projects. Politics have been ruling the house, Matt you cannot believe what's going on between Obama and McCain! The polls are frightening, so much so that I decided I cannot JUST vote this year, so I'm volunteering for the Obama office in Portland. Heaven forbid that we get another republican administration again.
I miss our conversations let's catch up on email.
All the Best......
Hey Matt and Karen, Good to hear you guys are riding out the storm(s)okay. It is ironic that there is water everywhere and not a drop to drink, thought that was just a saying. Loved your comment about the pace in Jamaica. For someone like Matt, this must be extremely frustating. One of my cohorts this summer was Jamaican, extremely handy, creative, clever but prone to sleeping late. Hope the concrete bunker meets your collective housekeeping needs.
Matt and Karen, I hope your reprieve was worthwhile and that the succeeding hurricanes left you all safe. 6 days is too long to not write in your blog when we are all wondering how you are faring!!
Matt thanks for asking about Drew. Sorry I didn't let you know sooner. He came through his soft palate surgery with flying colors. The stitches in the roof of his mouth were very sore, and of course the liguid painkiller stung incision so he fought that too, but all in all it turned out fine. He will continue with speech therapy to make sure all is well. And baby sister was absolutely perfect for us. She turns one year old today, by the way. Since she can't read a calendar yet, she doesn't know we weren't actually there ON her birthday, but 10 days prior. We go down again columbus weekend for a big birthday bash for them both.
Still no job, still looking.
The bathroom is complete for all practical purposes--just a couple of carpenter oversights to be fixed. It looks beautiful!
Michael is right, the election is really heating up. We've been helping out at headquarters too, but need to do much more. Adam asked us to make a $$ contribution to Obama in lieu of a birthday present. Other friends with kids that are that age have been emailing folks like crazy to get people to start working. So the Palin effect has had some good outcome too.I'll send you a great political forward I got today...
I know you got the email about Maureen's brother Roger, but what you might not have known is that his daughter's (last child to be tie the knot)wedding was last week-end, and this was a really big deal for him--a task he worked on for two years, to make it a perfect wedding for her. 5 days later he has a massive stroke in his sleep. Such a huge emotional switch for them all, from happy celebration, to losing the life of the party. So sad.
Love to you both. Still miss you like crazy.
Sharon
